How It All Began

In August 2022, the Lord put it on my heart to dedicate the 40 days leading to Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) to repentance and drawing near to the Father.

These 40 days are traditionally days of repentance, but it can be hard to stay consistent or know what to repent and pray for.

As I prayed to the Lord and read His Word, He put some Bible passages on my heart. I asked Him to write through me, and He faithfully led me to write a 40 day prayer and repentance guide. My family encouraged me to share it with others who might benefit from it. My siblings and I also recorded a podcast so that people could listen to the devotional.

We are just His vessels. We pray that God works in each of your lives these 40 days and that you experience the blessing of returning to Him.

Why These 40 Days?

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and the 40 days leading to it are traditionally a time of repentance and cleansing our hearts. Yom Kippur is the one day of the year when the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies. In the Year of Jubilee, the trumpet of the Jubilee was sounded and liberty was proclaimed on Yom Kippur (Leviticus 25:9-10).

These 40 days also represent second chances.

After leading the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses went up Mt. Sinai for 40 days to meet with God and receive the Torah (Exodus 24:12-18). Sadly, in Moses’ absence, the people of Israel forsook God and worshiped the golden calf. When Moses returned and saw this, he angrily broke the two tablets of God’s covenant because the people of Israel had broken their covenant with God.

Moses pleaded for God’s mercy and God gave Israel a second chance. Again, Moses went up Mt. Sinai and fasted 40 days and 40 nights. This second time, the Israelites were faithful to God. The broken covenant was restored.

According to tradition, the second 40 days Moses was on Mt. Sinai are these same 40 days of repentance. References in Scripture also support this.

Our Heavenly Father’s arms are open, waiting for His children to repent and return to Him. Will you join us on this 40 day journey of prayer and repentance?
