Day 40, Tishrei 10, Yom Kippur – Return to the Lord’s liberty (10/2/2025)

Podcast: https://youtu.be/qm1bB6zpAKM?list=PLtspfGIl74B36WKxFFEjdXQgwkk1PEGmH
Today is Yom Kippur, the “Day of Atonement.” Yom Kippur takes place on the tenth day of the seventh month and is the holiest day of the year, the one day of the year when the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies. In the Year of Jubilee, it was on this day, Yom Kippur, that the trumpet of the Jubilee year was sounded and liberty was proclaimed throughout the land of Israel (Leviticus 25:9-10).
Read Isaiah 58:1-14 (TLV):
1 “Cry aloud, do not hold back! Raise your voice like a shofar. Tell My people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Yet they seek Me day to day and delight to know My ways, as if they were a nation that did right, and had not forsaken their God’s decree. They ask Me for righteous judgments; they delight in the nearness of God.”
3 “Why have we fasted, yet You do not see? Why have we afflicted our souls, yet You take no notice?” “Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and exploit all your laborers.
4 Behold, you fast for strife and contention and to strike with a wicked fist. You should not fast as you do today to make your voice heard on high.
5 Is this the fast I have chosen? A day for one to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and spreading out sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to Adonai?
6 “Is not this the fast I choose: to release the bonds of wickedness, to untie the cords of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to tear off every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the homeless poor into your house? When you see the naked, to cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will spring up speedily. Your righteousness will go before you, the glory of Adonai as your rear guard.”
9 Then you will call, and Adonai will answer. You will cry and He will say, “Here I am.” If you get rid of the yoke among you— finger-pointing and badmouthing—
10 If you give yourself to the hungry, and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness, and your gloom will be like midday.
11 Then Adonai will guide you continually, satisfy your soul in drought and strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden, like a spring of water whose waters never fail.
12 Some of you will rebuild the ancient ruins, will raise up the age-old foundations, will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Streets for Dwelling.
13 If you turn back your foot from Shabbat, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call Shabbat a delight, the holy day of Adonai honorable,
If you honor it, not going your own ways, not seeking your own pleasure, nor speaking your usual speech,
14 then You will delight yourself in Adonai, and I will let you ride over the heights of the earth, I will feed you with the heritage of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of Adonai has spoken.
On Yom Kippur, God desires us to “to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke” (Isaiah 58:6). He wants us to take away the yoke, pointing of the finger, and wickedness. He wants the hungry to be fed and the afflicted to be lifted up out of their suffering. Today is a day of liberty. God desires to set people free from their bondages.
Today’s teshuvah:
- Have you put your soul into prison due to unforgiveness, regret of the past, bitterness, and resentment? Repent, cast your burden on the Lord, and receive the freedom of His forgiveness. Do you know people suffering or in need? Help them and care for them. Do you know people who are depressed? Pray for them and encourage them.
Heavenly Father, thank You so much for this holy day, Yom Kippur. Thank You for Your salvation and mercy and for setting us free from our bondages. Please free me from the bondage of unforgiveness, guilt, bitterness, and resentment. Lord, I humbly ask for Your forgiveness for allowing myself to be bound by these. Please forgive me and help me to walk in liberty for You have set me free from the yoke of wickedness. Please use me, Lord, to set free others in bondage. To lift up the depressed and to care for the needy. Thank You, Father, for Your love and goodness toward me and for all that You have taught me these 40 days leading to Yom Kippur. Please bless this day, Yom Kippur, and help me to continue to draw closer to You.

Yom Kippur
Tonight we enter Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).
Yom Kippur is on the 10th day of the 7th month on the Biblical calendar, which is from October 1st sunset to October 2nd sunset this year.
Fasting & Afflicting the Soul
Leviticus 23 tells us that Yom Kippur is a day of solemn rest and of afflicting the soul:
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD… It shall be to you a sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath.” (vs. 26-27, 32)
Traditionally, Yom Kippur is a 25-hour fast, as we are commanded to “afflict our souls.” This fast is referred to in several passages of Scripture, including Isaiah 58 and Acts. The purpose of fasting and afflicting the soul is to bring repentance.
A Holy Day
Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, the only day when the high priest would atone for the sins of the people and enter the holy of holies (Leviticus 16:2)
Repentance
Each year for Yom Kippur, our family does a “mending relationships” time where we rotate and spend a few minutes with each individual family member. We mend relationships, ask for one another’s forgiveness, and pray together. It is a blessing and we recommend you all to do this as well with your families.
Removal of Sins
In Biblical times, the sins of the whole nation of Israel were laid on a scapegoat and sent into the wilderness.
Leviticus 16:21-22 says:
“Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.”
As Psalm 103 says, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” God has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from the west!
Atonement through Yeshua
Yom Kippur foreshadowed the atonement and freedom from sin through Yeshua the Messiah.
Hebrews 9 tells us “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.”
Jubilee
Yom Kippur is also the day the Jubilee year was proclaimed, all debts were cancelled, and all slaves were freed (Leviticus 25:9-10). Praise the Lord for the freedom we have in our Savior!
The gospels record that Yeshua stood up in the synagogue and read this passage below (which He fulfilled):
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:1-3)
Please Pray
Yom Kippur is a day of personal and national repentance and of thanking God for His atonement.
Let us also pray for the nation of Israel and for freedom for all those in captivity, both physically (i.e., the hostages) and the spiritually lost.

Day 39, Tishrei 9 – Return to forgiveness (10/1/2025)

9 “Therefore, pray in this way: ‘Our Father in heaven, sanctified be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 “For if you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.
Today is the last day before Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. As we pray for God’s forgiveness, we must forgive others, too. Our sins are so great and so many – they are greater than a debt of trillions of dollars to God, which is impossible to repay. God, in His grace, freely forgave us. The blood of Yeshua (Jesus) redeemed us. We didn’t even have to pay one cent!
Other people may have sinned against us – their wrongs are similar to owing us several thousand dollars. Now, several thousand dollars is a good amount of money. However, they are nothing compared to what God has already forgiven – our trillions of dollars debt. Let us not hold grudges against one another. Out of gratitude toward God, let us have compassion and freely forgive others as He forgave us..
Lord, You are the King of the Universe and my sins are like a debt of trillions of dollars toward You. Yet, You freely forgave me and I didn’t even have to pay one cent. Please fill my heart with gratitude toward You. Today, I freely forgive others as You have forgiven me.
Worship and prepare your heart through this song: For Your Name is Holy.

Day 38, Tishrei 8 – Return to the things above (9/30/2025)

Read Colossians 3:1-11 (TLV):
1 Therefore, if you have been raised up with Messiah, keep seeking the things above—where Messiah is, sitting at the right hand of God.
2 Focus your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Messiah in God. 4 When Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him, in glory!
5 Therefore, put to death what is earthly in you—sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed—for that is idolatry.
6 Because of such things God’s wrath is coming upon the sons of disobedience.
7 At one time you also walked in these ways, when you used to live in these ways.
8 But now, set them all aside—anger, rage, malice, slander, and foul language out of your mouth.
9 Do not lie to one another. After all, you have taken off the old self with its practices
10 and have put on the new self that is being renewed in knowledge, according to the image of the One who created him.
11 Here there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, savage, slave and free; but Messiah is all, and in all.
The book of Colossians equates covetousness with idolatry. Covetous people desire things that belong to others and are never satisfied with what they have, no matter how rich they are. As followers of Yeshua (Jesus), we have died with Messiah – died to our lusts and evil desires. We have been raised with Messiah – raised to a new life that is not focused on this world, but on the things above. Therefore, if you have been raised up with Messiah, keep seeking the things above (Colossians 3:1a).
Lord, please forgive me of covetousness and help me to put to death my earthly members, “…fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5). Help me instead to have godliness with contentment. May I only desire and seek the things above, for I have been raised with Christ to a new life.

Day 37, Tishrei 7 – Return to godly stewardship (9/29/2025)

A biblical day starts at sunset of the day before

Read Malachi 3:8-12 and Ephesians 4:28 (TLV):
8 “Will a man rob God? For you are robbing Me!” But you say: “How have we robbed You?” “In the tithe and the offering.
9 You have been cursed with the curse, yet you keep robbing Me—the whole nation!
10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Then there will be food in My House. Now test Me in this”—says Adonai-Tzva’ot—“if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out blessing for you, until no one is without enough.
11 I will rebuke the devouring pest for you, so it will not destroy the fruit of your land, nor will your vine be barren in the field,” Adonai-Tzva’ot says.
12 “All the nations will call you blessed. For you will be a land of delight,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot.
Ephesians 4:28 The one who steals must steal no longer—instead he must work, doing something useful with his own hands, so he may have something to share with the one who has need.
All that we have, including our money, is from God, entrusted to us. Let us be good stewards and use what He has given us for His kingdom.
Today’s Teshuvah:
- Have you robbed God or others? Today, God calls, “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,’ Says the Lord of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it’” (Malachi 3:10). Investing in God’s kingdom is the most rewarding, trustworthy, and long-lasting investment of all time. And if you have stolen from others, steal no longer. Work with your hands and give generously to those in need.
Lord, forgive me for ever thinking that what I own is mine, for all that I have is from You and it is of Your own that I give back to You. Help me to be a faithful steward of Your money and to be a channel through which You can work wonderful things in Your kingdom. Fill me with wisdom to invest in Your kingdom work and give me a generous heart to give freely to others just as You have freely given to me of all Your blessings.

P.S. This year, I’d like to add a new song, “Over All” by Anastasia Irene Brown. The song is based on 1 Chronicles 29 and is a reminder of how all that we have (glory, riches, power, etc.) is from God and we are to joyfully offer our all back to Him. May we be good stewards, who bring glory and honor to the Lord!

Day 36, Tishrei 6 – Return to holiness (9/28/2025)

A biblical day begins at sunset of the day before

Whether married or single, young or old, God wants each of His children to live a holy life, because He is holy. Examine your heart and repent as you read God’s definitions of adultery in Hosea 3:1-5 and Matthew 5:27-30 (TLV):
Hosea 3:1 Then Adonai [the LORD] said to me: “Go again! Love a woman who is loved by a companion and committing adultery—just as Adonai has loved the Bnei-Yisrael [children of Israel], while they were turning to other gods and loving raisin cakes.”
2 So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver and an omer and a half of barley.
3 Then I said to her: “For many days you must stay with me. You must not practice prostitution. You must not have a man, and I will be the same toward you.”
4 For Bnei-Yisrael will remain for many days without king, without prince, without sacrifice, without sacred pillar, and without ephod or teraphim.
5 Afterwards, Bnei-Yisrael will return, and they will seek Adonai their God and David their king. Then they will turn in awe to Adonai and to His goodness in the last days.
Matthew 5:27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
28 But I tell you that everyone who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 And if your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away! It is better for you that one part of your body should be destroyed, than that your whole body be thrown into Gehenna [Hell].
30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away! It is better for you that one part of your body should be destroyed, than that your whole body go into Gehenna.
Today’s Teshuvah:
- Are you guilty of loving other “gods” more than God, the One who has redeemed and betrothed us to Himself (Hosea 2:19-20)? As Matthew 5 described, have you committed adultery through your heart, eyes, or hands? Return to living a holy, godly life today.
- Let us also repent on behalf of the country that we live in and people groups that we are related to, who have departed from God’s ways.
My lord and my God, You have betrothed me to Yourself “in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy.” You have loved me and redeemed me as Hosea loved and redeemed his unfaithful wife. Today, I rededicate myself to be Yours alone, to love You alone forever, and to be holy in my heart, eyes, and hands. Please have mercy on my country, _____________, and people groups that I am related to, ______________, for departing from You and Your holy ways. Please help us to return to holiness and follow You wholeheartedly.
Suggested worship song: “Wonderful, Merciful Savior” by Selah
Wonderful, merciful Savior
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that a Lamb
Could rescue the souls of men
Oh, You rescue the souls of men
–
Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost our way
Oh, we’ve hopelessly lost the way
–
You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for
–
Almighty, infinite Father
Faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne
Oh, we’re falling before Your throne
–
You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for

Day 35, Tishrei 5 – Return in your relationships pt. 3 (9/27/2025)

A biblical day begins at sunset of the day before.
Podcast: https://youtu.be/2uKc1czAk7w?list=PLtspfGIl74B36WKxFFEjdXQgwkk1PEGmH
Read Colossians 3:12-17 (NKJV):
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves in tender compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience—
13 bearing with one another and forgiving each other, if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord pardoned you, so also you must pardon others.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfect harmony.
15 Let the shalom of Messiah rule in your hearts—to this shalom you were surely called in one body. Also be thankful.
16 Let the word of Messiah dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with gratitude in your hearts to God.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Yeshua, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
As the elect of God, are you filled with “tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering”? God wants us, as His children, to walk in love, seek peace, and work together in unity as one body. Do you seek love, peace, and unity?
Today’s teshuvah:
- Continue in mending relationships with others. Today, repent and ask forgiveness from your family in the Lord, your fellow believers, and any people who do not fall in the categories we covered in the past two days (friends, colleagues, etc.)
Dear God, thank You for the family which you have given me in the Lord. Forgive me of times when I’ve held grudges against others or been proud and divisive instead of seeking love and peace. And to my friends and colleagues who are not believers, please help me to be a good witness to them. If I have wronged any, today I go and humbly apologize. Please help me to “put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering.” May I always seek God’s love and peace.
